Developmental milestones

A simple way to keep track of the things your child is doing — from smiling and babbling to running and counting. Pick an age, check off what you see, jot down questions, and print it for your next check-up.

A gentle heads-up

Milestones are typical markers, adapted from the CDC’s “Learn the Signs. Act Early.” program. They’re a guide for talking with your child’s doctor — not a test. Every child is different.

How to read this

Every child grows at their own pace, and this checklist is a conversation starter — not a diagnosis or a test to “pass.” Children reach milestones at different times. If your child isn’t doing some of these, or if they lose skills they once had, talk with your pediatrician — you don’t need to wait. Acting early gives your child the best chance. In New Hampshire, you can also contact Family-Centered Early Supports & Services for a free evaluation for children under 3.
