A plan for a hard moment

My safety plan

A safety plan is something you make when you’re feeling steady, so that future-you has a clear, kind set of steps to lean on when things get hard. Fill in what fits — you don’t have to complete every box at once. Come back and add to it any time.

Keep it somewhere you’ll find it

Once you’ve made your plan, print it or save it somewhere easy to reach — your wallet, your fridge, your phone’s notes, or as a photo. In a tough moment it’s a relief not to have to think it all up from scratch.
1

My warning signs

The thoughts, feelings, and situations that tell me a hard time might be starting.

2

Things I can do on my own

Ways to cope or take my mind off it — small, doable things that have helped before.

3

People and places that help me feel connected

Names or spots that pull me out of my own head — a friend to text, a coffee shop, a park, a meeting.

This is your private device, so write whatever helps you. If you ever share this plan with someone, you may want to skip full names or details you’d rather keep to yourself.

4

People I can reach out to for help

Support people I trust enough to tell that I’m struggling. Add their number so it’s right here.

5

Professionals and crisis lines I can call

Your therapist, doctor, or care team — plus the crisis lines, already filled in for you.

Add your own therapist, prescriber, or clinic on their own lines. The crisis numbers are here so you never have to search for them.

6

Making my space safer

Steps to put distance between me and anything I could use to harm myself, especially in a low moment.

Even small delays — a locked box, a trusted person holding onto something — can make a real difference. You deserve that bit of extra safety.

Making this plan is an act of care for yourself. You don’t have to get it perfect — having any plan at all means future-you won’t be facing a hard moment alone.
